Ian Smith
has worked in Scottish education for more than 30 years. He
was a secondary teacher for fourteen years and then worked
in various posts at national level. In 1996, while at Scottish
CCC, he wrote a paper entitled 'Teaching for Effective Learning'
which is credited with having a major impact on thinking about
classroom methodology in Scotland.
In the
past twelve years he has run workshops with over 40,000 of
Scotland's teachers face-to-face - over half the profession.
He is the principal author of a set of training materials
on Assessment for Learning which have been sold to more than
half the schools in Scotland.
One in
every three teachers in Scotland has a personal copy of his
booklet 'Assessment for Learning : mark less to achieve more'.
He also has many years experience of offering consultancy
to schools on classroom methodology.
