COURSES FOR NEWLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS

Learning Unlimited has contracts with education authorities to deliver a series of courses over the school year, as well as providing single sessions. We can offer a wide range of training drawn from topics in this brochure that are specifically designed to meet the needs of newly qualified teachers. Below are examples of our topics. HOW TO ESTABLISH A SECURE CLASSROOM (day or half day)

This course deals with how to build relationships with a class and to help them develop selfdiscipline. It will focus particularly on how to establish a classroom climate in the early weeks and months in which pupils feel secure.
Participants will learn:

  • how motivation works
  • how to establish rights, responsibilities and rules
  • how to plan for good discipline and behaviour management
  • how to deal with challenging behaviours in an assertive manner
 
HOW TO ORGANISE AN EFFECTIVE CLASSROOM (day or half day)

This course will focus on how to manage time, space, and materials and people to create an effective environment.
Participants will learn:

  • managing a lesson
  • managing time and space
  • managing people
 
HOW TO FOSTER EFFECTIVE HOME SCHOOL LINKS (day or half day)

This course is designed to help newly qualified teachers reflect on the purposes of parents meetings and homework, and to make the best of them to support pupil’s learning. Participants will learn:

  • handling your first parents meeting effectively
  • making homework more meaningful for pupils
  • devising appropriate ways to involve parents in homework
 
HOW TO ENCOURAGE QUALITY DISCUSSION (day or half day)

The best way for a teacher to monitor learning is by observing the pupils at work and listening to them talk about what they are learning. This course will help teachers to create a climate where pupils think about what they are learning.
Participants will learn:

  • evaluate the effectiveness of teacher questioning techniques
  • use a range of ways to raise the quality of classroom discussions
  • design and use activities that help pupils to think for themselves
